Goddess Katyayani: The Fierce Warrior Form of Goddess Parvati

Team Udayavani, Oct 20, 2023, 8:18 AM IST

Katyayani, the sixth incarnation of Goddess Parvati, is revered as her fierce and warrior form. It is believed that she assumed this powerful avatar to vanquish the evil demon Mahishasura.

Katyayani derives her name from the sage Katya, in whose hermitage she was born. The Adishakti idol represents Katyayani with four hands and three eyes, seated gracefully atop a formidable lion. Her right hands make the Abhaya and Varada mudras, symbolizing fearlessness and blessings. In her left hands, she holds a lotus and a sword, while a crescent moon graces her forehead.

Devotees turn to the worship of Maa Katyayani to seek solace for their sins and to nurture harmonious and blissful marital lives.
