Skydeck planned to redefine Bengaluru’s skyline

In Bengaluru, plans are underway for a unique observation tower, ‘Bengaluru Skydeck’, drawing inspiration from the banyan tree. Modeled after Shanghai’s observation towers, this project is positioned to play a notable role in the broader “Brand Bengaluru”. Once realized, it will stand as the nation’s tallest observation deck.
At an impressive height of 250 meters, the observation tower promises an expansive view of Bengaluru’s surroundings. The primary aim of this endeavor is to stimulate tourism.
Conceived as part of the ‘Brand Bengaluru’ initiative, the construction of this tower has garnered support from Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. However, final approval from the finance department and the cabinet remains pending.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has championed this ambitious project, outlining his vision on his account on X (formerly Twitter). Austria-based architectural firm Coop Himmelb(l)au, in collaboration with the World Design Organization, has conceptualized the proposed Skydeck project in Bengaluru.
The Skydeck design, inspired by the banyan tree’s distinctive features, is organized into three segments: Base, Trunk, and Blossom. This design offers visitors an immersive experience within a naturalistic setting.
In line with sustainable practices, the tower will adhere to energy-efficient standards. A windcatcher positioned at the top will dynamically adjust to face the prevailing wind direction. Solar panels integrated into the roller-coaster deck will generate power, and carefully designed base structures will ensure optimal air circulation.
Upon completion, the skydeck will offer an array of entertainment facilities. The base level will host a shopping arcade, restaurants, cinema, and a verdant sky garden. Meanwhile, the summit will feature a roller coaster station, exhibition hall, skylab, panoramic skydeck, restaurant, bar, and a VIP area.
For now, the Deputy Chief Minister has called for the identification of 8-10 acres of suitable land for the project’s implementation and a comprehensive financial viability assessment.
