Bantwal: A vehicle collided with an height restriction barrier at the old Panemangalore bridge on October 21, causing traffic congestion on the road for a while.

The height restriction barrier was put in place as a safety precaution following a traffic ban was imposed on heavy-duty vehicles after a crack was found on the century old iron bridge. The barrier was made of a set of iron pillars with an iron rod marking the permitted height.

However, the goods tempo unknowingly travelled ont eh bridge allegedly in the absence of proper signboards and struck the barrier. The horizontal rod, as a result, has fallen down. As the rod blocked the road, there were traffic snarls for a while. Fortunately, no loss of life or injuries have been reported in the incident.

Locals, however, alleged that the mishap was caused due to the unscientific work done to install the barrier. There are no proper signages to alert teh drivers about the height limits they say.

The locals said that they have fixed the rod onto its orginal position, but as it is not secured completely,  there is a risk of it falling again.
