Vijayapura: Protests erupt after idol of deity found desecrated in Indi Taluk

Accused has been arrested by police

Indi (Vijayapura): Protests erupted in the Hirebevanur village of Indi taluk after an incident that hurt religious sentiments reportedly occurred on Wednesday.

An individual allegedly defecated and mutilated an idol of a deity on Wednesday morning, which riled the locals into protest.

The accused, identified to be Shaukatali Nainasab Makandar, has been arrested by the Indi Rural police.

Outrage outpoured as several organizations condemned the act. Protestors took to the streets. Activists of pro-Hindu organizations and villagers blocked the road.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal District Chief Prakash Biradar called for a thorough investigation and strictest action against the culprit behind the despicable act. The accused should be booked under the Goonda Act, he demanded.
