Noted Konkani writer Edwin J F D’Souza passes away

Edwin Joseph Francis D’Souza, the distinguished Konkani writer known for his extensive literary contributions, has passed away at the age of 75. Edwin J F D’Souza, a Kendra Sahitya Academy Award recipient, was a celebrated figure in the world of Konkani literature. He authored 33 novels, over 100 short stories, and numerous other works that garnered him awards and accolades.

Born in Valencia, Mangaluru, in 1948, Edwin’s literary journey began in 1964 with the publication of his first Konkani short story. His influence extended beyond linguistic boundaries, with many of his stories translated into various languages, including English, Kannada, Hindi, Kashmiri, Malayalam, and Tamil.

He was recognized for his translation work, translating between English and Konkani. Some of his notable translations included works by renowned authors like A J Cronin and Agatha Christie.

Edwin’s literary legacy also included monumental achievements like a 1008-page trilogy and a Konkani anthology titled “Poinn” (The Journey).

In recognition of his exceptional dedication to Konkani literature, he received The Book Sellers’ & Publishers’ Award (BAPASI) from Chennai in 2012. His contributions left an indelible mark in the literary world and earned him honors from various quarters.

Edwin J F D’Souza’s passing leaves a void in the world of Konkani literature, but his works will continue to inspire and resonate with readers.
