A state-of-the-art international swimming pool, constructed at a cost of Rs. 24 crores in Yemmekere, is set to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on November 24.

The occasion will also host the 19th National Masters Swimming Tournament. In light of these developments, District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundurao has directed officials to make suitable arrangements for the event.

Minister Gundurao presided over a preparatory meeting at the District Collector’s office on Wednesday and highlighted that the tournament would take place from October 24-26.

Initially, there were objections to the construction of the swimming pool on what used to be a local playground. However, the concerns of the locals were eventually addressed, and the pool was built.

Mayor Sudhir Shetty Kannur and former Mayor Premananda Shetty have requested the Chief Minister to consider the demands of the local residents before inaugurating the facility.

Minister Gundurao responded by suggesting a meeting with the people on November 4, emphasizing the importance of gaining the confidence of the locals.

District Collector Mullai Muhilan mentioned that the swimming pool’s contractor would be responsible for its management, including ensuring water quality, for three years. Additional information about the swimming pool was provided by Smart City General Manager Arun Prabha and swimming pool committee coordinator Tejomaya.

Regarding the Chief Minister’s visit on the 24th, the Minister also proposed considering the inauguration of other projects, such as the already constructed Kadri Market, and others.

Suggestions were put forward by Corporators Shashidhara Hegde and Naveen D’Souza, as well as tourism expert Yatish Baikampady.

10-Day Karavali Festival on the Horizon

The Karavali Utsav, which has not taken place since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is now scheduled to occur. Minister Gundurao confirmed his intent to promptly submit a proposal to the government, including the estimated cost of the festival, and discussed it further.

District Collector Muhilan disclosed that a discussion regarding a Karavali festival with various programs lasting from December 21 to 31 had already been conducted.
