New Delhi: In a weird dismissal, Angelo Mathews became the first cricketer to be ‘timed out’ in an international cricket match.
In a crucial match of the ODI World Cup 2023 on Monday, Sri Lanka faced a setback as Angelo Mathews had to depart without facing a single ball.
It looked like Mathews’ helmet strap was broken. He asked for a replacement from the dressing room.
As Mathers had not reached the crease within 2 minutes from previous batter’s departure, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed to the umpires who deemed Mathews out.
Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and elected to field against Sri Lanka in the backdrop of severe air pollution in Delhi. Both teams decided to cancel their practice sessions due to the challenging environmental conditions.
Angelo Mathews – Timed out….. the most weirdest dismissal ever, took more than 2 minutes to be at crease. Mainly because of strap issue in his helmet. #SriLankaCricket #srilankacricketboard #SLvsBan #Bangladesh #angelo #mathews #INDvsSA #INDvSA #Shakib pic.twitter.com/gyybOUs6io
