Mangaluru: In an effort to curb the drug menace plaguing Mangaluru City, the Commissioner of Police announced the formation of four specialized teams under the respective Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) as part of the Drug Awareness Campaign initiated on November 1.

The primary objective of these dedicated teams is to systematically monitor locations with high public footfall and individuals suspected of drug consumption.

Over the course of the last four days, these teams conducted rigorous checks at 53 different venues, including lodges, pubs, restaurants, homestays, resorts, and apartments occupied by students. During these operations, the police officers administered drug tests to 56 individuals. Subsequently, based on the results of these medical tests, 12 cases of drug consumption under Section 27 (b) of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act were registered. Additionally, 15 individuals were taken into custody, and seven mobile phones and two two-wheelers were seized as part of the crackdown.

This operation received overall guidance from Sri. Anupam Agrawal, IPS, the Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru City. It was executed by teams led by ACPs Sri. Mahesh Kumar (Central Sub-Division), Sri. Manoj Kumar Naik (North Sub-Division), Smt. Dhanya Nayak (South Sub-Division), and Sri. P.A. Hegde (City Crime Branch), along with their dedicated staff.
