Madikeri: Gunfight erupted between Naxalites and the Kerala Naxal Task Force on the Kodagu-Kerala border.

The incident, which occurred just 4-5 kilometers from Kodagu, has raised concerns about potential Naxal infiltration into the district. Reports indicate that one Naxal was injured during the operation, leading to speculation that the individual may seek treatment or refuge in Kodagu.

In response to the heightened threat, the district police in Kodagu have declared a high alert. Additional armed police personnel have been deployed at check posts throughout the district, where thorough vehicle inspections are underway. Hospitals, medical shops, and homestays along the border have been instructed to remain vigilant. The police presence in these areas has been increased, and strict monitoring is being implemented.

Kodagu District Superintendent of Police, K. Ramarajan, conducted a visit to inspect the border areas of Birunani, Teralu, Parakatagere, and Kutta in light of the increased Naxal activity. Discussions were held regarding the implementation of combing operations to address the evolving situation.

This incident follows a gunfight that occurred just last week between five Naxalites and the Kerala Police on the Kerala border, resulting in the arrest of two individuals.
