The case involving Bellary MP Devendrappa’s son, Ranganath, accused of cheating a woman, is set to be transferred to the Mysuru police station.
The 25-year-old victim, a resident of Vijayanagar, filed a complaint against Ranganath, who worked as a lecturer in Mysore, and the initial proceedings were handled in Bengaluru. However, with no pertinent records in the Bengaluru jurisdiction, senior officers have directed the case’s transfer to Mysuru.
Prior to the transfer, senior police officials have announced that statements from both the victim and the accused, along with necessary documents, will be collected. This preliminary step will precede the official transfer of the case to the relevant police station in Mysuru.
The complainant, employed as a real estate dealer in Bangalore, alleged that Ranganath, the MP’s son and a lecturer at Maharaja College, Mysore, engaged in a relationship with her after meeting at a party about a year ago. The complaint suggests that Ranganath, under the pretext of developing a relationship leading to marriage, later distanced himself from the woman.
An FIR has been registered at Basavanagudi Women’s Police Station in connection with the case. Notably, Ranganath has filed a counter-complaint at Vijayanagar police station in Mysuru, accusing the woman of blackmail and claiming that she possesses ₹15 lakhs, along with compromising photos and audio recordings, which she is allegedly using to extort him.
