Mangaluru: Customs officials thwart gold smuggling attempt; seize gold worth Rs 35 lakhs from passenger

Mangaluru: Customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport intercepted confiscated smuggled gold worth Rs 35 lakhs from a passenger on November 29.

Acting upon profiling and surveillance, officers detained the passenger arriving from Dubai via Air India Express flight IX 814.

During the frisking process, officers discovered three oval-shaped objects were found concealed in his rectum, These objects were found to contain gold in paste form, totaling a weight of 571 grams (net). The estimated value of the seized gold stands at a staggering Rs. 35,11,650, customs officials said.
