Madikeri: Kerala-based duo robbed of Rs 50 lakhs, left stranded at night

Madikeri: A group waylaid a car and looted Rs 50 lakhs cash from a Kerala-based duo in Devarapura, Ponnampet taluk in Madikeri.
The victims– contractor Shamjad K. from Kerala and a companion — encountered a group of 10 to 15 assailants demanding money in Malayalam while returning from Mysore to Kerala. The money looted was allegedly received after selling jewellery.
According to the dup, the assailants hijacked their car after taking them away in another vehicle and left them stranded midway.
The incident occurred at approximately 3 am on December 9, when the duo was returning from Mysore.
According to the complaint, the group of assailants accosted the duo near a lorry that had broken down near Devarapura. The victims were taken away and their car was seized. They were let off in a deserted place.
After an arduous trek in the dark, Shamjad and his companion managed to reach Virajpet Police Station with the assistance of a newspaper vehicle around 4 am.
Further investigation led to the identification of the location where they were abandoned as Devarapura near Gonikoppa. Subsequently, they filed a complaint at Gonikoppa police station.
Police Response:
Upon receiving the complaint, Kodagu police swiftly initiated an investigation. A stolen car, damaged, was found in Kolathodu village. The Inspector General, Dr. Boralingaiah, and District Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan visited the site for inspection.
SP K. Ramarajan announced that a special team, comprising three inspectors and seven sub-inspectors under additional SP and DySP guidance, has been formed to delve into the case.
