A bridge under construction in Jeppu collapsed on Monday, December 18, leading to injuries sustained by three individuals.
The collapse occurred during the ongoing slab construction work, a phase that had been underway for the past six months. Valued at Rs 50 crore, the project was entrusted to Vijay Infra Project Private Limited, a Mumbai-based contractor agency. The incident transpired while applying the 11th load of concrete to the slab.
Expressing concern over the incident, the contractor stated, “I have been in this field for the past 30 years, and this is the first time such an incident has occurred. The same agency is also responsible for the Padil underpass work.”
Approximately 12 labourers were involved in the slab work, and the three injured individuals suffered falls when the structure collapsed. The accident occurred during the finalization of the last slab. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident thoroughly to determine the cause of the collapse.
