In efforts to curb unauthorized sand mining, raids continued across Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Districts. Here is a round-up of all the cases reported on Friday.
Bantwal: Bantwala rural police conducted a raid in Pudu village along the Netravati river, seizing illegally stored 36 units (12 loads) of sand worth Rs 60,000. A case has been registered, investigation is ongoing.
Belthangadi: Dharmasthala police intercepted a lorry transporting sand from a river in Charmadi without a license at Satyanapalke junction in Kalamanja village. The lorry was seized.
Mangaluru: In Addur village of Mangaluru taluk, 5 boats involved in illegal sand mining at Kelagina Kere were seized in an operation led by the Deputy Director of Mining Department. Stored sand was confiscated, and a case was filed.
Malpe: Malpe police in Udupi arrested two individuals involved in illegal sand transportation. During a routine check, a vehicle transporting sand without a permit was intercepted. The driver revealed that he was transporting sand mined from the Swarna river on instructions from the tempo owner, Manohar. Manohar and his accomplice Uday were taken into custody for questioning. A case has been registered in Malpe police station.
