Mangaluru Airport received bomb threat email on Dec 26, say police

Mangaluru Police said that a threatening email was received by multiple airports, including the Mangaluru International Airport, on December 26.

Police said that the threat email was received at 23:59 Hrs. The message, originating from an anonymous email, mentioned that explosives were placed in a plane and the airport premises. It also threatened to detonate them. The email claimed that it was from a group identifying as “Funing.”

Airport authorities noticed the alarming message on December 27, 2023, at 11:20 Hrs, triggering immediate security measures. Enhancements included tightened perimeter security, additional checkposts, and expedited ASC (Aviation Security Check) and BDDS (Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad) procedures. A coordinated meeting ensued among airport authorities, attended by Bajpe Police, to further strategize and address the threat, police added.

Based on the airport authorities’ complaint, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered under Crime No 210/23, invoking Section 507 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), at Bajpe Police Station after obtaining court permission.

Further investigations are underway to identify the source, police added.
