Chitradurga: The skeletal remains of five individuals were discovered within an abandoned house on the Old Bangalore Road in the city on Thursday.
Police were alerted to the situation on Thursday night and subsequently premises were searched. Forensic experts arrived later in the night to gather samples from the remains.
According to relatives and locals, the property belonged to Jagannath Reddy, a retired engineer, and his family had not been seen for several years.
The house had remained shut for approximately four to five years. In 2019, a foul odor wafted from the residence. Locals assumed it was due to a dead rodent and did not report the matter.
Recently, the rear entrance was forcibly opened in a suspected burglary attempt. Subsequently, upon inspection, the bodies were discovered. Police were notified and the investigation has been launched.
Jagannath Reddy, approximately 80 years old, his wife Prema, around 70 years old, along with their daughter Triveni, and sons Krishna Reddy and Narendra Reddy, resided in this house. It is gathered that Jagannath Reddy’s eldest son, Manjunath Reddy, passed away several years ago.
Following the grim discovery, Pawan Kumar, a relative of Jagannath Reddy, voiced suspicions about the deaths and lodged a police complaint.
