Mangaluru: Notorious rowdy Akashbhavan Sharan reportedly attempted to run over the Mangaluru CCB police and escaped.

According to a case registered at Kavoor police station, the incident reportedly occurred on the night of January 2, when CCB police stopped a car in which Sharan was driving at Maryhill. In a bid to escape, Sharan allegedly rammed the car into the police vehicle and fled the scene.  No police personnel has been injured.

Akashbhavan Sharan is wanted in several criminal cases. As many as 21 cases including murder, attempted murder, rape of a minor girl, and hafta collection have been registered against Akashbhavan Sharan in Mangalore and Udupi.

Last October, the Karnataka High Court sentenced 5 people, including Renuka Prasad, to life imprisonment in the murder case of KVG Polytechnic College administrator Ramakrishna. Akashbhavan Sharan, who was a hired hand in carrying out the murder, was also among the accused. However, his sentence was not pronounced as he had been absconding at the time.

Sharan is accused of orchestrating the murder of Surendra Bantwal in 2020, while he was in jail.  He was released on bail at the end of 2022. He was arrested again in a case of attempted extortion after intercepting a scooter near Suratkal on January 14, 2023. Four months later he was released from prison on bail and went into hiding. A case has also been registered against him under the Arms Act.
