Vijayapura: Bus catches fire after collision with motorbike; rider killed

A KKRTC bus caught fire after colliding with a motorbike on the Vijayapura-Kalaburagi National Highway-52 near Gabasavalagi in Sindgi taluk on Wednesday. The passengers on the bus got away safely, but the bike rider was killed in the incident.
The incident occurred as the bus, bearing the number KA 28 F 2469 operated by the Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, was en route from Moratgi towards Sindgi. Both vehicles reportedly collided head-on.
Tragically, the collision claimed the life of the bike rider, who succumbed to injuries at the scene of the accident. Upon impact, the bike came to rest beneath the bus. Leaking petrol ignited into flames, engulfing the bus in fire.
The passengers, who received minor injuries in the accident immediately got down from the bus, thus avoiding a major disaster.
The fire service personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. However, the bus was completely gutted.
The Sindagi police have reached the spot and trying to ascertain the identity and address of the deceased bike rider.
