Three persons were arrested for theft at a jewellery shop, Mangaluru North police said on Wednesday.

The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Sinan (25), Haider Ali Asil (20), and Mohammad Tanveer (34) – all residents of Ullal Taluk. They were nabbed from the Central Market area in the city, police added.

The trio had visited Pragati Jewellers, GHS Cross Road on Car Street, posing as customers. They attracted the attention of the salesman elsewhere and fled with gold jewellery weighing 97.11 grams worth Rs 6,00,000. A case was filed at the Mangaluru North Police station based on a complaint filed by Vinod Shet, owner of Pragati Jewellers.

The police said they seized gold jewelry weighing 97.11 grams valued at Rs 6,00,000, along with a black scooter valued at Rs 90,000, purportedly used for the crime, and two mobile phones valued at approximately Rs 25,000. The collective worth of the recovered items sums up to about Rs 7,15,000, they added.

Mohammad Tanveer was implicated in a robbery case at Konaje police station, while Haider Ali Asil had two assault cases registered against him in the same station, police added.
