DK DC issues strict order on noise pollution regulations for Kateel Yakshagana Melas

The Dakshina Kannada District Collector has recently issued a stringent order, directing the adherence to the provisions outlined by the State High Court concerning noise pollution regulations during the Kateel Durgaparameshwari Yakshagana melas.
The order mentions that the onus of ensuring adherence to all rules during the Kateel Durgaparameshwari Yakshagana melas rests solely with the temple management.
Earlier, on 15 November 2022, the Collector had extended the Yakshagana performance timing from 10 pm to 12.30 am, citing it as a special case. However, this decision faced opposition when a man named Krishnakumar challenged it in the High Court. The subsequent order dated 28-11-2023 mandated the Collector to take appropriate action regarding the duration of the Yakshagana Mela. Notably, no proposal has been submitted in this regard, as highlighted in the recent order.
The order also underscores the absence of specific provisions addressing the COVID-19 scenario.
In a related development, the temple management committee has formally communicated its intent to host Yakshagana throughout the night starting from January 14. This move follows the prevailing circumstances and regulations, with the temple committee taking proactive steps to ensure the traditional event aligns with legal and health-related protocols.
