A fraud case has been filed against a man allegedly failing to make payment for an excavator vehicle he purchased in the year 2020.

As per the complaint, lodged with Kollur police, the victim had purchased a 2012 model excavator vehicle for Rs 10 lac in 2020 from a seller in Mangaluru. Subsequently, the vehicle was registered under his name at the Udupi RTO office.

He claimed that the accused Sumit, a resident of Karkala approached him to purchase his excavator in May 2021. Following negotiations, the deal was finalised for Rs 8.5 lac and Sumit deposited the upfront payment of Rs 1 lac into the complainant’s bank account.

Sumit assured to pay the remaining Rs 7,50,000 immediately and took possession of the excavator vehicle and its registration papers.

The complainant alleged that though two and a half years have passed since the deal, Sumit has not paid the outstanding amount nor returned the excavator vehicle.

An investigation is underway in the case.
