Puttur: Sister’s attempt to save elder sibling by donating liver ends in tragedy

Puttur: In a heartbreaking incident, the efforts of a young lady to save her elder sister’s life by donating her liver went in vain as the latter died of a heart attack during treatment at the hospital here on January 24.
The deceased identified as Aishwarya (29), daughter of D. Ananda Nayak had been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru after she was diagnosed with jaundice. Her medical examinations revealed liver damage and the doctor suggested a liver transplant.
Aishwarya’s mother expressed her decision to donate her liver to save her daughter’s life. However, her younger sister Anusha, who works for a bank stepped forward to make the life-saving donation. Both the sisters were admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru for the liver transplant surgery.
Tragically Aishwarya died of a heart attack during the transplant procedure. Meanwhile, Anusha is under medical observation at the hospital following the procedure.
The family incurred huge medical expenses to the tune of Rs 40 lakhs and sought financial assistance through social media.
