Koppala: Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) DK Shivakumar addressed the recent exit of former Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar from the Congress party.

Shettar, who had cited perceived injustices within the BJP while joining the Congress with expectations of victory, faced a significant defeat in the elections.

DCM Shivakumar expressed disappointment, stating, “We had welcomed the former CM to the Congress party. We made him an MLC hearing his flattery. However, he chose to leave Congress and join BJP. ”

In response to questions from reporters, DK Shivakumar acknowledged the fluid nature of politics, emphasizing that individuals often switch parties. He referenced Mallikarjuna Kharge’s advice to check the background before taking anyone into the party.

Shifting focus to the Tungabhadra parallel reservoir issue, DCM Shivakumar assured the government’s commitment to its construction. He mentioned having written to the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, seeking cooperation. However, due to the ongoing elections in Telangana, a decision has been delayed, resulting in a loss of 30 tmc ft of water for Karnataka.

The construction of the parallel reservoir has been a longstanding aspiration, with thousands advocating for it over the years. CM Siddaramaiah also addressed the issue during a session, he added.

DCM Shivakumar highlighted the urgency of resolving the matter, emphasizing the impact on the state’s water resources. The government remains dedicated to finding a solution and awaits the response of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to address the water-related challenges faced by Karnataka.
