Udupi: Woman files complaint against NRI husband, in-laws over dowry harassment

A woman has filed a police complaint against her NRI husband and her in-laws alleging that they tortured her mentally and physically demanding dowry.

In her complaint, lodged with Kaup police, the woman, Smita, a Majoor resident said that she got married to her husband Shivadaya in Udupi in the year 2021.

Her family had given Rs 20 lakh dowry for the marriage, the complaint claimed.

However, her husband and his family insisted that she get further dowry and tortured her both mentally and physically at his home in Mumbai’s Kurla. The torture continued even in London, she alleged.

Later, Smita returned to India and filed a petition against her husband in the family court in Udupi seeking maintenance.

According to the complaint, Smita’s husband and her father-in-law abused and threatened her on January 23 even after the mediation was over.
