Union Budget 2024-25: Rs 55 crore earmarked for railway infra development in Mangaluru region

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in the interim budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, earmarked an amount of Rs 55 crore for the development of railway infrastructure in Mangaluru region.
Of the Rs 55 crore allocation, a sum of Rs 50 crore has been earmarked for the track doubling work between Jokatte station under Southern Railway division and the Thokur station of Konkan Railways. The distance between these stations is 1.98 km and the work assumes significance as it plays a pivotal role in connecting two railway zones.
Furthermore, a separate allocation of Rs 1 crore has been made for the Mangalore Junction – Panambur section patch doubling work and another Rs 1.2 crore has been set aside for the completion of the remaining work on the Netravati Cabin-Mangalore Central track doubling.
The remaining amount has been allocated to complete the pending works of additional platforms at Mangaluru Central Station. While the construction of the additional platforms 4 and 5 have been completed, works on foot overbridge and a shelter are to be undertaken.
