Mangaluru: The budget session of the Karnataka legislature is scheduled to kick off on February 12, with the Governor addressing the joint session on the inaugural day. Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader confirmed that the session would extend until February 23, with the budget presentation slated for February 16.

Khader, speaking to reporters in Mangaluru, disclosed that a three-day Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s address would follow, featuring discussions on the Governor’s speech.

In preparation for the upcoming budget session, a one-day special training session for MLAs and journalists is set to take place at IIM Bangalore on February 9. Resource persons will provide MLAs insights into the nature of budget sessions and debates, with a special focus on training journalists for effective reporting during the session, he said.

To streamline proceedings, Khader said there is a proposal to begin the legislative proceedings at 9 am, an hour earlier than usual. This change aims to address issues arising from the absence of a fixed starting time between 10 am and 11 am.

Additionally, daily breakfast arrangements from 8 am to 9 am in Vidhana Soudha are being organized to encourage MLA participation and reduce absenteeism.

The Speaker emphasized that these measures are undertaken to ensure the smooth functioning of the session and enhance the engagement of MLAs.
