The murder victim geologist Prathima K S (L) and accused Kiran

Bengaluru: Subramanyapura police have filed a comprehensive 600-page charge sheet in the murder case of senior geologist K S Prathima (43). The accused, identified as Kiran, was charged after an intense investigation led by Talaghattapur police station officer N. Jagadish.

The incident took place on November 4, 2023, in Kuvempu Nagar, Doddakallasandra. Kiran, allegedly angered by being sacked, forcibly entered Pratima’s residence and murdered her.

According to the charge sheet, Kiran, who had previously worked as a car driver on a contractual basis in the Geology Department, reportedly misbehaved with Prathima. Following this behavior and considering Kiran’s criminal background, Prathima decided to terminate his employment. This decision triggered resentment in Kiran, leading to the heinous act.

According to the charge sheet, Kiran confronted Prathima on the fateful night, requesting reinstatement. When Prathima refused, Kiran’s anger escalated, resulting in him strangling her to death and stealing gold jewelry along with Rs 5 lakh in cash.

After committing the crime, Kiran fled to Mala Mahadeshwara Hill for a pilgrimage with two friends. The police tracked him down and arrested him upon his return to Bengaluru.

The charge sheet, spanning 600 pages, includes the voluntary statement from Kiran, statements from 70 witnesses, CCTV footage, circumstantial evidence, and digital evidence. The case is now set to proceed to the 2nd ACMM court of the city.
