Bengaluru: A court has issued fines of Rs 25,000 each to the parents of six minors for providing them with vehicles and indirectly being responsible for dangerous driving.
Police said that despite constant efforts by the traffic police to raise awareness against giving vehicles to minors, some parents ignored the warnings and allowed their children to ride two-wheelers.
As a result, two children were involved in three accidents due to their negligence, while three other motorists were caught violating traffic rules by indulging in dangerous driving practices. The Kamakshipalya traffic police took action by registering six separate cases last year and presenting a charge sheet against the parents of the minors to the Juvenile Court, they added.
The trial court has now ordered each of the six parents to pay a fine of Rs 25,000 for permitting their underage children to operate two-wheelers, resulting in a total fine of Rs 1.50 lakhs, police said.
Anitha B Haddannavar, DCP Traffic of the West Zone, stated that the crackdown on minor motorists will continue as part of ongoing efforts to ensure road safety.
