International Childhood Cancer Day was observed with awareness activities at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal

The Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal, commemorated International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) today at Dr TMA Pai Hall, Manipal. This global observance aims to raise awareness about childhood cancers and express support for affected children, their caregivers, and survivors.

The chief guest, Dr I P Gadad, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, Udupi District, emphasized the importance of timely and appropriate treatment for childhood cancers. He acknowledged that while most childhood cancers are highly curable, lack of information and awareness prevents many from receiving treatment. Dr. Gadad praised Kasturba Hospital for organizing awareness programs. The program witnessed collaborative efforts aimed at creating awareness about childhood cancers and supporting those affected by it and assured support from the District Health Department for such initiatives and assured support from the district health department for such initiatives. Mr. Rajagopala B, Regional Head of Karnataka Bank, was the guest of honor, expressing optimism about the growing support from organizations and donors for children undergoing cancer treatment. He highlighted Karnataka Bank’s commitment to health activities and its ongoing involvement in supporting such causes.

The event saw the presence of KMC Dean Dr. Padmaraj Hegde and Medical Superintendent Dr. Avinash Shetty. Dr. P Suba Sooria, Head of Nursing Services at Kasturba Hospital, awarded prizes to the competition winners. The formal program was followed by an entertaining session for children and their caregivers. Dr. Vasudeva Bhat, Head of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, provided an overview of the event and welcomed the attendees. Dr. Archana M V, Assistant Professor in the department, proposed a vote of thanks, while Dr. Swathi P M, Assistant Professor, served as the master of ceremony for the program. Ms Sucheta Nayak conducted games and entertainment program for the children.
