Mangaluru native Dr. Deepika Lobo appointed new Head of Public Health by Canada’s Halton Regional Council

Dr. Deepika Lobo, hailing from Mangaluru, has taken the reins as the new head of Halton Public Health. Recently appointed by the Halton Regional Council, Dr. Lobo assumes the role of Commissioner of Health and Medical Officer of Health (MOH) for the region. In her new position, she will oversee public health and paramedic services, managing a substantial budget exceeding $100 million.
Dr. Lobo has been an integral part of Halton Region since 2019, initially serving as an associate medical officer of health. Her leadership abilities were recognized, and she has been acting commissioner of health since September 2023.
Dr. Lobo’s educational background includes completing her residency in public health and preventive medicine at McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Medicine. She is also a fellow with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Her journey began with schooling at St. Mary’s School, Marjil, Mangaluru, followed by earning her doctor of medicine from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University of India. Additionally, she holds master’s degrees in public health and business administration from McMaster.
In 2013, Dr. Lobo achieved the prestigious Allan J Greve gold medal award for her outstanding academic performance during her MBA in health services management at DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University.
Dr. Lobo’s dedication and passion have been instrumental in her career progression in Canada. She credits her success to her family roots, being the daughter of Denis and Dorothy Rodrigues, and having siblings Dilraj and Dikshith. She is married to Ravi Kiran Lobo and is a proud mother of two sons, Raygan and Rohan Lobo.
