An undertrial prisoner died at the district hospital of Chikkamagaluru City, just a few days after his arrest. The family of the deceased has raised suspicions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
The deceased, identified as Satish, had been on the run for seven years in connection to a legal dispute over finances involving his brother. He was apprehended by the city police in Hassan’s Srinagar four days ago and was sent to jail. However, his health took a sharp downturn and he was admitted to the district hospital.
Satish breathed his last merely three days after being admitted to the hospital.
Sathish’s wife Nethra meanwhile raised suspicion about the circumstances of his death. It is alleged that there were injury marks on Satish’s hands, neck, and other parts of the body. Considering this, his brother speculated that Satish may have been mistreated by prison and police personnel.
Following the custodial death, a judge visited the district hospital and recorded the statements from the deceased’s family members.
