Two persons have been arrested for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 28 lakhs at the residence of a retired Aakashvani officer under JP Nagar police jurisdictional limits.
The arrested were identified as Manjula (30) from Koppala and Mahadevamma (50) from Kanakapura.
The elderly couple, Munikrishnappa (90), and his wife Annamma had hired the accused to work as a nurse and maid at their house.
Reportedly, nurse Manjula would advise Annamma not to wear her chain while going out for a walk as it would be dangerous. Mahadevamma used to stay at their residence and knew where they kept the cupboard keys.
The accused managed to steal the ornaments from the almirah when the couple was not at home.
Recently Munikrishnappa noticed that his wife was not wearing her necklace and asked her about the same. When she opened the almirah to check, they were shocked to find the ornaments missing.
They called the police after they could not find the ornaments.
During the police questioning, Mahadevamma gave some vague replies. Later she confessed to the crime and revealed that they had hidden the ornaments in a bucket within the house.
Police suspect that the accused might have also been involved in similar thefts.
