Bengaluru: Yelahanka police arrested three persons, who allegedly posed as cops and kidnapped a rag picker for ransom.

The arrested are identified as Muzammil, a rowdy sheeter; Syed Shifu, and Yusuf.

As per the police, Muzammil had been collecting hafta from ragpickers every month. The victim had however refused to pay him hafta, so Muzammil along with his two aides plotted to abduct him.

The gang, dressed as police persons, arrived at the victim’s house one night and said that he was being taken for questioning.

Reportedly when they travelled some distance, the scrap dealer became suspicious of them and tried to escape from the car. The patrol police noticed the rag picker being chased by the gang and rescued him.

During the questioning, it was found that the accused had posed as cops and they were subsequently arrested.

A case has been filed at Amruthahalli police station
