K’taka HC refuses stay on Hokkadigoli Veera-Vikrama Kambala

The Karnataka High Court delivered its verdict on the Hokkadigoli Veera-Vikrama Kambala which has sparked heated debates in recent days. The court declined to grant a stay to the Hokkadigoli Sri Mahishamardini Veera Vikrama Jodukare Bayalu Kambala.
The legal battle stemmed from a writ petition filed by Lokesh Shetty, the secretary of the Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kasaragod district Kambala committee. Shetty sought to halt the proposed Hokkadigoli Sri Mahishamardini Veera Vikrama Jodukare Bayalu Kambala.
A single-judge bench led by Sachin Shankar Magadum presided over the hearing today. The bench questioned the jurisdiction of the district committee to determine Kambala event dates. Citing a lack of relevant documents before the court, the bench deemed it inappropriate to issue a restraining order for the scheduled Kambala event on March 16.
Expressing reservations about judicial intervention in sensitive matters, the bench adjourned the writ petition to a later date for further deliberation on jurisdictional matters.
Representing the Hokkadigoli Kambala Committee, Arun Shyam and Rakshit Kumar Naravi presented arguments before the court.
The Mahishamardini Veera Vikrama Jodukare Bayalu Kambala was traditionally held in Hokkadigoli for several years, and now another Kambala event is scheduled in the same town this year due to various reasons. Both Kambala events were planned for the same day, March 16, prompting the Kambala Committee to seek legal recourse to address the issue.
