M’luru: Family assaults labourer for alleged theft, video goes viral

Mangaluru: A video of a labourer being assaulted by his employers has gone viral on social media.

The victim, a native of Bihar, was employed as a labourer at a residence in Arkula. He had allegedly stolen cash and gold worth Rs 1.5 lakhs from the house.

When the family noticed that the gold and cash was missing, they questioned the victim and even assaulted him to gather the details. A CCTV footage of the assault went viral.

Speaking about the incident Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal said that the police have taken cognizance of the video and immediately conducted an inquiry. The youth, who hails from Bihar, worked in a house in Arkula. He had stolen cash and gold.

It is learnt that the family members assaulted him and asked him to return the valuables. The youth then returned the gold and cash. Both sides have settled the matter amicably and have not registered a complaint The youth has returned to his village, Agrawal said.
