An employee on election duty on Tuesday attempted suicide within the premises of the City Collector’s office.
The individual involved has been identified as Sridhar Hegde, a member of the ‘Ekagavakshi Paddati’ team at the District Election Officer’s office in the city.
Hegde has been serving as a Panchayat Development Officer under the Kadiru Udyavara Panchayat of Belthangady since 2019. Reports indicate that he had been awaiting a transfer since February and March due to the relocation of another employee.
Allegedly prompted by personal reasons, Hegde attempted suicide and was promptly rushed to Wenlock Hospital for medical attention. Sources report that doctors have since stabilized his condition and transferred him to the intensive care unit for further observation.
Hegde’s wife, Jayanthi, is employed as a staff nurse in Belthangady.
