DK records maximum temperature of nearly 40 deg C

Residents of the coastal district are feeling the pinch of the scorching heat as temperatures continue to rise daily. On Friday, Dakshina Kannada recorded a maximum temperature of 39.9 degrees Celsius while Udupi recorded 39.2 degrees Celsius.

As per the IMD data, the present temperatures in the coastal district are 1 to 2 degrees Celsius above the normal temperature. The average temperature ranges from 35 to 36 degrees Celsius and it has been predicted that it would further increase in the coming days.

The forecast predicts sporadic rainfall in the region after April 10.

DDMA advisory to tackle heatwave conditions:

The Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has issued guidelines for the public to prevent heatstroke.

  • People have been advised to drink water frequently, and consume water-rich fruits eg: watermelon, cucumber, and pineapple to stay hydrated.
  • Wear caps while going out.
  • Wear loose light-colored, cotton clothes during the summer.
  • Avoid walking barefoot in the sun and wear slippers or shoes during peak sun hours.
  • Utmost care must be given to children’s health, They must be given 2-3L of water daily as per their needs to avoid dehydration.
  • A doctor must be consulted if they show symptoms like fever, cold, headache, or fatigue.
