Mangaluru: Customs officials seize Rs 58 lakh worth smuggled gold from passenger at MIA

Mangaluru: Customs officials seized smuggled gold worth Rs 58 Lkahs from a passenger at the Mangaluru International Airport on April 11.

According to officials, the passenger, a resident of Dakshina Kannada, had arrived at the airport from Damma via Air India Express flight IX-886. He was intercepted based on his suspicious movement. While frisking, the officials discovered evidence that metallic objects were concealed in the body.

Customs officials said they recovered 3 oval-shaped objects concealed in his rectum. Gold in paste form 24-carat purity weighing 812.0 grams (net) and valued at Rs. 58,78,880 was recovered from them. The passenger was arrested and produced before the Magistrate, the officials added.
