A police complaint has been lodged at the Kundapur police station accusing individuals and pages on social networking sites of inciting discord among religious communities and defaming Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha Congress candidate K. Jayaprakash Hegde by spreading fictitious tales.

The complaint registered by Surendra Shetty accused individuals Sandeep Shetty Nitte, Prakash Handattu, Udupi’s Sanjit Kotyan, N. Ganskar, Vastava and a page called ‘Kesari Brigade’ were propagating “baseless, slanderous and blatantly false” narratives against JP Hegde.

According to the complaint, the accused circulated a video with derogatory remarks about Congress candidate K. Jayaprakash Hegde.

Shetty’s complaint urged stringent legal measures against the perpetrators.

Consequently, the police have registered an FIR under Section 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 66(c) and 66(o) of the Information Technology Act.
