DK District In-Charge Minister Dinesh Gundurao sat down for an exclusive interview with team Udayavani, shedding light on the Congress party’s significant contributions to the district.

Addressing the question of Congress’ impact on the district, Minister Gundurao emphasized the party’s pivotal role in land reforms, citing the transfer of 2,21,886 acres of land to 70,591 tenant families under the Land Reforms Act. He highlighted landmark developments such as the establishment of Mangalore International Airport, National Institute of Technology in Suratkal, and the nationalization of major banks including Canara Bank, Syndicate Bank, and Vijaya Bank.

When questioned about the party’s efforts in addressing employment concerns among the youth, Minister Gundurao pointed to the introduction of the CET in 1993, which facilitated thousands of students from diverse backgrounds to secure positions in multinational companies both in India and abroad. In 2010, Bharat Petroleum’s LPG bottling unit was constructed in Baikampady. He further noted the establishment of key industrial zones like Mangalore SEZ, which has generated significant employment opportunities.

Responding to queries regarding government grants, Minister Gundurao criticized BJP’s lack of transparency in disclosing details of received grants, contrasting it with the Congress’ commitment to accountability. He also questioned the efficacy of BJP’s promises, particularly referencing the performance of the Pumpwell Flyover and the unfulfilled assurances of favorable exchange rates and reduced petrol prices.

In addressing BJP’s accusations of hindering development, Minister Gundurao turned the spotlight on BJP’s own track record, highlighting instances such as the handover of Mangalore Airport to Adani and the merger of profitable coastal banks with others.

Regarding the upcoming election and the candidacy of Padmaraj, Minister Gundurao expressed optimism, citing Padmaraj’s achievements in the legal and religious spheres, as well as his contributions to social causes. He highlighted Padmaraj’s popularity and emphasized his inclusive approach to governance.
