Lokayukta raids Ballari Urban Development Authority, uncovers corruption scandal

In a significant operation, Lokayukta officials conducted a raid on the office of the Ballari Urban Development Authority (BUDA) and seized a substantial amount of illicit funds. The raid resulted in the apprehension of six officials involved in corrupt activities.
From high-ranking officials to lower-level employees, the corrupt practices were widespread within BUDA. The Lokayukta police arrested six individuals who were caught accepting bribes during the operation.
Among those arrested are BUDA Commissioner Ramesh Vatagal, BUDA Town Planning Member Kallinath, Assistant Town Planner Yashavini, BUDA Manager Narayana, Case Worker Shankar, and Junior Engineer Kaja Hussain.
The arrests were made following detailed investigations into bribery allegations. Commissioner Ramesh Vatagal was caught red-handed receiving a bribe of 5 lakhs, while Town Planning Member Kallinath demanded 6 lakhs in bribes. Assistant Town Planner Yashasvini was arrested for soliciting a bribe of 3 lakhs, and Manager Narayan received 10 thousand rupees via phone payment. Case Worker Shankar accepted a bribe of 20 thousand rupees, while Junior Engineer Kaza Hussain received 20 thousand rupees through another payment method.
The arrests mark a significant crackdown on corruption within BUDA, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat unethical practices and ensure transparency in governmental institutions.
