Manipal: Kasturba Hospital, a prominent healthcare institution, has unveiled a new block to alleviate the scarcity of special ward beds and enhance patient care services. Named after Dr. Ramdas Pai, Chancellor of MAHE, the block is set to be inaugurated on April 30, coinciding with the 126th birth anniversary of Dr. TMA Pai, the institution’s founder.

Despite boasting 2,032 beds, including 90 private beds, 3 suite rooms, and 56 semi-special beds, Kasturba Hospital grapples with a shortage of special ward beds, leaving around 50 patients on a daily waiting list. In response, the new block, equipped with modern amenities, aims to cater to both in-patient and high-demand out-patient services.

Comprising 10 outpatient consultation rooms, 34 double occupancy rooms, 75 private rooms, and advanced operation theaters, the block houses a total of 161 specialized inpatient beds. Additionally, it features intensive care units, high-dependency units, and a daycare unit, ensuring comprehensive care for patients.

Dr. Avinash Shetty, the Medical Superintendent, emphasized the block’s focus on enhancing outpatient services. Patients can now book appointments online, reducing waiting times and ensuring timely consultations with preferred specialists. Moreover, the block offers convenient access to diagnostic services such as X-ray and ultrasound within its premises.

The new block, spanning ground floor and five floors, also caters to the needs of international patients, providing a dedicated lounge for their convenience. With a commitment to personalized care, Kasturba Hospital endeavors to address the evolving healthcare needs of the community through this innovative addition.
