Karnataka: Three, including newlywed, killed in lightning strike

Three persons, including a newlywed, were killed in a lightning strike in the state on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Somasundar (34), a resident of Parvatmukhi of Subrahmanya, Ratnamma (55) of Gangalu village in Hoskote taluk of Bengaluru rural district and Pramat Garmani (37), a laborer from Assam.

On Friday evening as rains lashed the region, Somasundar rushed outside to collect the betel nuts that had been kept out in the courtyard of his house for drying. At this moment, he was struck by lightning. He was immediately taken to a hospital, but he died en route. It is gathered that Somasundar had got married only 15 days ago.

Ratnamma died in a lightning strike when she went to graze sheep. Around 20 sheep too died due to the lightning.

Pramat was struck by lightning in Bettageri village under Madikeri rural police station. Apart from this a few cattle also died after being struck by lightning near Hanur in Kolegala.

Dakshina Kannada’s Western Ghat foothills, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Hassan, Mandya districts received torrential rain from Friday afternoon to evening. As the rain brought much-needed relief from the scorching heat it also caused damage at many places.
