Udupi: The number of tourists visiting Udupi’s popular spots has seen a significant increase, despite the district administration’s temporary restrictions on certain activities due to inclement weather.
In April and May, even with the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, a large number of tourists flocked to the district’s beaches, temples, and various other attractions. According to Tourism Department officials, the popularity of places offering water sports surged, particularly during the summer months.
Water Sports Restrictions
Due to forecasts of strong winds and rain, the district administration has advised fishermen to cease fishing activities. Concurrently, restrictions have been imposed on water sports. Water transport activities across the district have also been temporarily halted. These restrictions will likely remain until weather conditions improve. With the monsoon expected to arrive sooner than usual, the possibility of resuming water sports activities in the near future appears slim.
Kumar C.U., Assistant Director of the District Tourism Department, stated that these measures are in place to ensure tourist safety.
Tourism thrives
Despite the high intensity of summer this year, the number of tourists has not dwindled. In fact, more tourists visited Udupi this summer compared to the same period last year. The district saw an uptick in visitors to its temples, beaches, and water sports locations, indicating a thriving tourism sector even amidst weather challenges. Kumar highlighted that the increase in tourist numbers underscores the enduring appeal of Udupi’s attractions.
