Udupi: Yogish Acharya, the main accused in the murder of Sharath Shetty at Pangala has surrendered before the court.

On February 5 last year, Yogish along with others had hacked Sharath to death after calling the latter for a discussion. Later Yogish had gone absconding.

Following Sharath Shetty’s murder, the police continued their investigation while the victim’s family sought solace in their family deity. The deity had assured them that the accused would be brought to justice.

The divine prophecy came true on May 23 as Yogish voluntarily surrendered before the Third Additional Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate Court of Udupi through his lawyer. The court remanded him to 14 days judicial custody.

Notably police efforts to locate the accused remained futile even 15 months after the murder. Yogish’s surrender has reinforced the local belief in the power of divine intervention.

Currently, the investigation officer, Kapu Circle Inspector Jayashree Mane, has taken Yogish into police custody for further investigation.

Police took Yogish to different places for investigation, his house and the place where the murder took place. It is gathered that the accused has divulged important information regarding the murder.
