Mysuru sculptor Arun Yogiraj creates Nandi statue for Amarnath temple

Renowned sculptor Arun Yogiraj from Mysuru, who previously crafted the statues of Shankaracharya at Kedarnath, Subhash Chandra Bose on Delhi’s Kartavya Path, and Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, has achieved another milestone by sculpting a Nandi statue for the Amarnath Temple in Kashmir.
The Nandi statue, standing 3 feet tall, is made from the Krishnashila stone of H.D. Kote taluk in Mysuru district. The statue embodies the essence of Nandi with intricate carvings of a bell, anklets, chains, and ropes around its neck. This Nandi statue will be installed in front of the Amarnath Ice Lingam of Lord Shiva.
Given the challenging terrain of the location, the temple trust requested a 3-foot-tall statue for easier transportation to the intended site.
Arun Yogiraj received the request from the Amarnath Board two and a half months ago to create the Nandi statue. He completed the sculpture in two months and sent it to Amarnath from Mysuru on May 29.
“The beautifully crafted Nandi statue was dispatched to the distant Amarnath Temple in Kashmir on Thursday evening. Our South Indian style will now gain recognition in North India as well,” said Arun Yogiraj, the sculptor.
