Kota (Udupi): A bike rider was killed on the spot when a KSRTC bus collided with his bike near Amruteshwari Circle in Kota late Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Vasudev Ganiga (33), son of Patri Manjunath Ganiga, a resident of Kotathattu Kalmadi.
Vasudev, who worked at a private hotel in Thekkatte, was on his way home around midnight. While turning his bike at the Kota divider on the Kundapur-Udupi National Highway, a bus traveling from Mangaluru to Sirsi hit him. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to the serious injuries sustained in the accident.
Kota police arrived at the scene and have registered a case.
The deceased was unmarried and is survived by his mother, brother, and sister. Known for his gentle nature, he had previously worked abroad for several years and had recently returned to work at the hotel.
Dangerous Junction
The locals claimed that the junction where the accident took place is particularly dangerous as the main road and service road converge at the same point, leading to frequent accidents and fatalities. Previously, temporary mini-speed breakers were installed as a solution. However, due to recurring accidents, locals are now demanding a permanent solution to this problem.
