Monsoon brings good rainfall in DK and Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi: With the onset of the monsoon in coastal Karnataka, various parts of Dakshina Kannada district experienced heavy rains with thunderstorms on Monday. Udupi district also witnessed significant rainfall in several areas.
Although the monsoon entered the coast on Sunday, the expected rainfall did not occur, leading to a weakening of the monsoon. The weather was cloudy from morning to noon. Thick clouds formed in the afternoon, leading to rainfall.
Several places reported damage. In Puttur, artificial flooding caused water to enter a jewelry shop. Near Darbe, a blocked drain caused rainwater to flood the road, disrupting vehicular movement for some time. Lightning struck a house in Bilinele, causing damage. Near Elimale school, a landslide caused concerns about potential damage to a house.
In Mangaluru city, there was moderate rainfall in the afternoon.
Sullia: Heavy Rain with Thunderstorms
Sullia taluk experienced heavy rainfall with thunderstorms on Monday afternoon. Several areas, including Sullia town, received rainfall. Kollamogaru and Harihar areas saw heavy rain, causing water to flow into local streams. Rain was reported in Sullia, Aranthodu, Mandekolu, Bellare, Panja, Kollamogaru, Subrahmanya, and other places.
Udupi: Good Rainfall
Udupi district saw intermittent rainfall from late Sunday night through Monday. Heavy rainfall was reported in Hebri and Kundapura areas. Manipal, Malpe, and Udupi areas experienced sporadic rain with thunder amid a generally sunny-cloudy day.
Precautionary Measures
There is a possibility of heavy rain in the coastal region from June 3 to 8. District and taluk-level officials, designated nodal officers, and members of local disaster management committees are required to remain at their central posts. For emergency services, contact 1077 or 0820-2574802, according to a press release from the Udupi District Commissioner’s Office.
Yellow Alert Issued
With the onset of the monsoon, a “Yellow Alert” has been issued for the coast on Tuesday. The weather department has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in various parts of the coast.
Puttur: Torrential Rain and Lightning Strikes
Puttur: Several areas in the taluk experienced heavy rainfall with thunderstorms for an hour on Monday evening, leading to water entering houses and shops in the town. Road traffic was disrupted in some rural areas.
In Darbe, rainwater overflowed from a narrow stormwater drain onto the road, hindering traffic. Water entered a retired teacher’s house, damaging household items. The city’s administration has not addressed the issue of artificial flooding caused by the narrow stormwater drain for several years.
Rainwater entered shops on Court Road, causing inconvenience. A compound wall collapsed on Court Road.
Lightning strikes damaged electrical equipment in many homes and commercial buildings.
