Heavy rain predicted in coastal Karnataka, Orange alert issued

Mangaluru: The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an “Orange Alert” for the coastal regions, indicating the possibility of heavy rain from June 8 to 11.

Strong winds and heavy rain are expected during this period, according to the weather forecast.

Although the monsoon arrived in the coastal areas on June 2, heavy rainfall was not observed in the following days. However, the next four days are likely to bring good rainfall to the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

In Dakshina Kannada, moderate rainfall was recorded in several places on Friday. Mangaluru city experienced good rain on Friday morning, continuing until noon, followed by a mix of clouds and sunshine. Heavy rain was also reported in Sullia in the afternoon. Ullal, Bantwal, Subrahmanya, and Beltangady received moderate rain.

Temperature Levels

In recent days, the city recorded lower maximum temperatures, with 27.9°C being 3.1°C below normal. The minimum temperature was 25.4°C, which was 1.6°C above normal.

Heavy Rain in Udupi

Udupi: Several parts of Udupi district experienced heavy rainfall on Friday. Continuous rain was reported in Kundapura, Byndoor, and Hebri, causing damage to some houses.

Intermittent rain occurred from late Thursday night to Friday in Udupi, Manipal, Malpe, Kapu, and Brahmavar. Despite cloudy conditions, widespread rain fell from the afternoon into the night. In Karkala, lightning struck the house of Sushila Acharya, causing damage.

Rainfall measurements recorded 7.3 mm in Karkala, 32.7 mm in Kundapura, 7.81 mm in Udupi, 36.8 mm in Byndoor, 10.0 mm in Brahmavar, 7.2 mm in kaup, and 31.5 mm in Hebri. The district’s average rainfall for the 24 hours up to 8:30 AM on Friday was 21.5 mm.

Strong winds and rain caused damage to power poles and wires in many places, leading to power outages in Udupi and Manipal areas on Friday.
