Mangaluru: The stabbing incident under the jurisdiction of Konaje Police Station, in which 2 BJP workers celebrating a victory in Boliyar were injured, was primarily triggered by provocative slogans, stated Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal on Tuesday, June 11.

He clarified that although slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” were indeed chanted after the procession, they were not the cause of the provocation. Instead, it was a prior objectionable slogan related to Pakistan, shouted near an auto stand during the procession, which became known to the community through social media. This led to some individuals becoming agitated and committing the act, the Commissioner explained at a press conference on Tuesday.

Out of the 20 accused in the stabbing case, six have been arrested so far. Among those involved in the stabbing is a known rowdy-sheeter. Cases have also been registered against those who chanted the provocative slogans, Agrawal added.

Measures have already been taken to maintain peace and order. Peace meetings will be held at the police stations starting tomorrow, he informed.
